The value of the Central Bank of Ireland’s gold reserves have shot up to more than €1.6bn, soaring by around €600m in just one year.
The surge in the value of its holding comes as the price of gold hit record levels in the wake of US president Donald Trump’s threats to annex Greenland, even as the immediate crisis receded at the end of last week.
