As Jack Boyle confronts the prospect of not being able to play rugby for the rest of the season following Leinster’s confirmation that he must undergo a procedure on his ankle, the club are refusing to condemn the surface upon which he suffered his catastrophic injury.

Despite widespread evidence alighting upon the issue of serious injuries sustained on artificial surfaces compared to grass, latterly from the CSO in Ireland, as well as multiple studies conducted in the UK and Ireland and notably from the British Journal of Sports Medicine, Leinster assistant coach Robin McBryde refused to point the finger at the 4G pitch in Connacht where Boyle suffered his catastrophic 20th minute injury on Saturday.
