Dove Cameron, Damiano David Proposal Details: Reacts
Hopeless romantics everywhere are emotional after Dove Cameron opened up about the seriously meaningful way that Måneskin frontman Damiano David proposed to her last year.
If you need catching up, Dove and Damiano first sparked dating rumors in September 2023, and they confirmed their relationship the following February. In October last year, speculation was rife that the two had gotten engaged after Dove was photographed wearing a ring on that finger in Australia, and the pair finally confirmed their engagement on Instagram earlier this month.
Speaking to Vogue in a recent interview, Dove opened up about how Damiano had popped the question. She said: “For the actual proposal, I wasn’t wearing any makeup. I was completely barefaced, ’cause I had no idea that it was gonna be that day. It was very sweet in that way because I am typically very made-up, done-up. I have fun experimenting with that stuff. But in this case, I was just in my big T-shirt, slightly damp hair, and no makeup.”
And during an appearance on The Tonight Show on Tuesday night, Dove shared even more insight — and what she had to say is so romantic that it is almost sickening. Speaking to Jimmy Fallon, Dove said that she was in the middle of packing for a trip when the big moment came around.
“It was a day I would never have projected,” she explained. “We were packing, and I’m the worst version of myself when I’m packing… I’m in a big T-shirt, no makeup, hair still kind of wet from the shower, and I’m running around like a creature in our house. He does that thing, I feel like every girl knows this with their partner. I’m in the hallway, and he does that thing, that boyfriend face of: ‘Oh, I love this little silly creature that is in my life.’”
“And I was like no, no, no, no, no,” she went on, explaining that she realized a proposal was coming. “I ran into the other room panicking, like: ‘Do I do my nails? What do I do? I gotta be ready!’ And he goes: ‘Babe…’ It was in our house. I forgot how to function for a minute and my brain broke in half.”
“Then I came out into the living room and he had something in his hand,” Dove recalled. “And he said: ‘I know that some girls want rose petals. I know that you were maybe expecting something big, but our life is so big and it’s full of so many public highs that there’s no romance in that for us anymore. I wanted to do this here, in our home, because I want dishes, I want laundry, I want making food together. I want you in your big t-shirt and this is the life that I choose, and I hope you choose the same. Will you marry me?’”
As Jimmy praised Damiano for the romance, Dove revealed: “Oh my god, I cried so much! From the moment I saw him standing, I was sobbing. It was water works!” She also confirmed that the proposal had taken place in October, but they weren’t planning on announcing their engagement before the pap caught them in Australia — which was the trip that she’d been packing for when Damiano popped the question.
Needless to say, people have been left obsessed with what Damiano said to Dove when he proposed, with that particular snippet of the clip almost instantly going viral on X. Reacting to the footage, one person wrote: “And this my friends, is how you propose.”
“this is the sweetest thing ever,” somebody else added, and one more quipped: “This or nothing.” Another tweet reads: “he’s got it, that’s romantic as fuck.” While somebody else joked: “@ universe when is it my turn.”
