The premiere of the eighth and final season of Outlander is getting closer, and Starz has released the first trailer (above) to tease what’s ahead. The Sony Pictures TV-produced show returns one last time on March 6.
“I have everything I never knew I wanted. I hope you’ve had everything you’ve wanted,” Claire (Caitríona Balfe) tells her beloved Jamie (Sam Heughan) in the first few seconds of the trailer.
And when you add the visual of Claire and Jamie, older, with grey hair, miles away from the sprightly characters from early seasons, this moment is enough to break your heart. It’s really time to say goodbye. Further, there’s an image of the locket with their daughter Faith’s name, followed by a happy few seconds of Brianna (Sophie Skelton) alongside her husband Roger (Richard Rankin).
For many seasons, the name of Frank Randall (Tobias Menzies) has not been mentioned. But here it is, in the trailer, as Jamie tells Claire that her ex-husband has written about a coming battle where Jamie will die.
Life has a start date and an end date. Jamie appears ready to embrace his destiny by saying he’s heading to battle and protecting his loved ones from a similar fate. No matter what happens, fans should be prepared with plenty of Kleenex.
As Season Eight begins, Jamie and Claire soon find the war has followed them home to Fraser’s Ridge, now a thriving settlement that has grown and flourished in their absence. With new arrivals and changes made during their years away, the Frasers are confronted with the question of what they are willing to sacrifice for the place they call home and, more importantly, what they would sacrifice to stay together. While the Frasers keep a united front against outside intruders, family secrets finally coming to light threaten to tear them apart from the inside. Although they’ve left the war for America’s freedom behind, their fight for Fraser’s Ridge has only just begun.
The series also stars John Bell as Young Ian Murray, David Berry as Lord John Grey, Charles Vandervaart as William Ransom and Izzy Meikle-Small as Rachel Murray.
