A pedestrian has been killed in a road collision in Co Kildare.

Emergency services attended the scene in the Mylerstown area, Robertstown, at approximately 5.25am today.

A statement from An Garda Siochána said: “The pedestrian, a male in his 50s, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

“His body has been transferred to hospital where a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.

“No other injuries have been reported.

“The scene was preserved for technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. The road has since reopened.”

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to this collision to come forward.

The statement added: “Anyone who was travelling in the area between 5am and 5.45am and who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) is asked to make that footage available to investigating Gardaí.

“Gardaí can be contacted at Leixlip Garda Station on (01) 666 7800, the Garda Confidential line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.” Investigations are ongoing.

A total of 190 people died on Irish roads last year – the highest since 2014.

So far this year, 12 people have died on Irish roads.
