Deezer to demonetise up to 85 percent of AI-generated streams and license detection tech · News ⟋ RAThe streaming platform says the vast majority of AI music streams are fraudulent, as it moves to sell its AI-detection technology to the wider industry.
Deezer is demonetising up to 85 percent of streams linked to fully AI-generated music after identifying widespread fraud on the platform.
In a press release circulated last Thursday, January 29th, the Paris-based streaming service said AI-generated tracks now account for roughly 39 percent of all daily uploads, with around 60,000 synthetic tracks delivered to Deezer each day. While AI music represents only 2 percent of total streams, the company says up to 85 percent of those streams were fraudulent in 2025, compared to an average fraud rate of 8 percent across its wider catalogue.
All detected fraudulent streams are excluded from royalty payments, and fully AI-generated tracks are removed from algorithmic recommendations and editorial playlists. Last September Deezer confirmed that 30,000 tracks created with AI are added to the platform every day.
Alongside the announcement, the company revealed it will begin licensing its AI-music detection technology to other companies, following tests with industry organisations including French collecting society Sacem. The tool, first launched internally in early 2025, is already used by Billboard to identify AI-generated tracks in its charts.
CEO Alexis Lanternier said the move is aimed at improving transparency and protecting artist revenues. “We know that the majority of AI-music is uploaded to Deezer with the purpose of committing fraud, and we continue to take action,” he said. “We detect and tag AI-generated music and remove it from algorithmic recommendations, so that our users have a clear choice regarding what to listen to, while making it harder for fraudsters to game the system.”
