The 44-year-old from Station Road, Drumleck, Castlebellingham, who was driving the car, is believed to have been delivering newspapers when the crash happed on the R192 at Corcloughan, Shercock shortly before 7.30am on Monday, February 2.

Emergency services and Gardaí rushed to the scene, but Mr McBride was pronounced dead a short time later.

The lorry driver, a man in his 60s, was taken to hospital for assessment.

Friends and neighbours have been paying tribute to David, who is remembered as “a lovely genuine guy” who would always stop for a chat.

A native of Blackrock, David is survived by his heartbroken wife Paula, sons, Conor, Danny, Oisín, Felím, Culín and Dathí , parents Brendan and Gillian, brother Shane, sister Donna, extended family and a wide circle of friends.

David will be reposing in the Eternity Room of Quinn’s Funeral Homes, Dundalk on Thursday, February 5 from 3pm-8pm. Funeral Mass on Friday, February 6 in St. Oliver Plunkett Church, Blackrock at 1pm. Private cremation will follow. House private at all times.

A GoFundMe appeal has been launched by friends of David to lessen the family’s burden of grief by attempting to cover his funeral expenses.

A garda investigation into the fatal crash is underway with gardai appealing for witnesses.

Road users who were in the area at the time and may have camera footage, including dashcam, are asked to make it available to gardaí.
