Lisa Rinna left The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills after eight years on the Bravo show. While there have been different narratives about why she left, the reality star has opened up multiple times about her decision. Back in 2023, while appearing in an interview with ES magazine (via USA Today), she stated:
Who wants to leave a job? But I think we all knew it was time. Eight years of that kind of show … What more could I have done, besides generate more memes?
While she revealed that her decision was also rooted in a dream she had about her late mother telling her to leave the show and follow her dreams, she explained in 2025 that it was also because of the fanbase. While appearing on the Therapuss podcast, Rinna explained that the show became difficult because of social media.
It wasn’t Bravo, it wasn’t the girls. It was the fanbase. They villainized me in a way that I just didn’t want to live like that anymore. And that is the truth… The fanbase has to know it’s because of them that I left the show and that’s something I think they don’t want to take responsibility for.
But now, Rinna has made her peace with the decision and is doing a lot better.Â
How Losing Her Mother Impacted Lisa Rinna’s Decision?
Lisa Rinna was left distraught when she lost her mother in November 2021. While she continued to remain a part of the show, she explained during an appearance on Jeff Lewis Live that it was difficult for her.Â
I’m in a much better place, obviously, than I was three years ago. You know, my mother had passed away, and you know, truth be told, I should have taken a moment and not maybe done that year and just done the grieving and not done the show.
She further explained that her workaholic mentality led her to continue despite contractual obligations.Â
It was difficult, you know, it was difficult to grieve in the public eye. And I also don’t think that people are comfortable watching other people grieve. It’s too painful. And I think it triggered a lot of stuff in people. They didn’t know why they were upset with me, but I think it had something to do with that. So, it was a really, really difficult ending to that chapter.
While she is okay now and wouldn’t want to change it, she did say the show became toxic due to fan backlash and hate.Â

Years after leaving The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Lisa Rinna went on The Traitors Season 4. However, her journey on the show ended during the January 29 episode.Â
The end of ‘Housewives’ was very difficult for me. It was just so nice to be me. I am just so grateful for the entire experience. Thank you.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly in October 2025, Rinna explained how fun it was and that it took her out of her comfort zone.Â
I made some really good friends. I love these people.Â
She also commented on the contrast between the two shows.Â
Housewives is mentally and emotionally very difficult. This is emotionally and physically hard.
In another interview with The Wrap, Rinna remarked that she was pretty apprehensive about coming back to reality TV, but is grateful for the opportunity and really enjoyed working on the show and with the cast.Â
