Many of the new movies and shows on Netflix this week are all about family. The comedy flick Tyler Perry’s Joe’s College Road Trip puts Madea’s scene-stealing brother in the driver’s seat as he accompanies his teenage grandson on a cross-country trek to visit prospective colleges — and possibly changes his mind about which university to attend.
The Mexican drama A Father’s Miracle centers on a devoted dad who is wrongfully imprisoned, leaving his daughter to fend for herself as he fights to prove his innocence. The docuseries Being Gordon Ramsay follows the celebrity chef as he juggles the launch of his biggest restaurant ventures to date — and the demands of his fun-to-watch wife and kids. Plus, the three-season sitcom Suburgatory, the wrestling biopic The Iron Claw, and the Bryan Cranston film Wakefield all focus on family — albeit in very different ways.
Family needn’t be limited to direct relatives. Longtime colleagues are your work family, like in the third season of The Night Agent and the 10 seasons of Stargate SG-1. And then there’s the people you bond with so strongly that they practically feel like family, as in the Oscar-nominated short The Singers.
