When Kim Townsend-Smyth was growing up in Conary, high in the Wicklow Mountains, she was far from the sea — but not from a calling. Now, as general manager of Seal Rescue Ireland, she spends her days helping to protect some of Ireland’s most iconic marine mammals — and she’s calling on the public to join her.

At a recent meeting in Greystones Library, she spoke to a group of locals interested in volunteering. Her message was clear: seals are an integral part of our ocean eco-system, they need our help — and anyone can make a difference.
