Filming begins on Cork’s  answer to ‘Normal People’

Filming has begun on the TV adaptation of the series that is being dubbed Cork’s answer to Normal People.

The Rachel Incident, by Cork author Caroline O’Donoghue, which is set in the city and in UCC, began filming in the city last Christmas.

The eight-part series for Channel 4 will star Obituary’s Máiréad Tyers as Rachel, alongside Ellis Howard as James. 

They are joined by Bad Sisters and Rosie star Sarah Greene as Deenie, and Daniel Ings, who is currently starring in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, as Dr Fred Byrne.

Set on Leeside in 2010, the story follows Rachel, a student who is working at a bookstore when she meets James — and it’s love at first sight. Together, they form a friendship that will shape their lives, running riot through the city, trying to cultivate a bohemian existence while the reality of the financial crash looms over them.

Filming of interiors is taking place in Dublin, while final scenes are due to be shot in Cork in May.
