The very minute the cast for Emerald Fennell’s adaptation of Emily Brontë’s Wuthering Heights was announced, the naysayers threw in their tuppence worth.

Margot Robbie, at 35, was too old to play Cathy; Jacob Elordi not “the right race” to play Heathcliff. Production stills showed the characters in costume and Fennell’s critics were quick to brandish accusations of historical inaccuracy and almost aggressive modernness.
