Ciara Kelly has revealed that she has returned to her broadcasting duties following the loss of her sister, Dara, last week.

The presenter explained that her older sister endured a brief but “fairly ferocious” fight with cancer and tragically died on February 10. She disclosed the devastating news whilst filming a clip for her yearly 100 Days of Walking Challenge.

Ciara, who lately transferred from breakfast to drivetime on Newstalk, is currently midway through the daily challenge, which numerous followers on social media are likewise undertaking. She commenced her routine update by considering her week.

“Frankly, half of it was a blur to me anyway, so that seems kind of doable,” she said, reports RSVP Live.

“It’s been a weird week for me this week, to be honest. I went back to work and tried to go back to life and normal things, I guess, and I feel okay because it’s kind of gone okay.

“I was thinking about it, and I was thinking sometimes it’s the action of actually doing something that makes you realise you can do it. Sometimes you’re not sure if you can do it or not, and then you do it, and you can.

“Does that make sense? That makes sense to me anyway. Sometimes, when I think I can’t do that, and I just try, and then it turns out you can, then that makes me feel better. So, the keeping going basically, there’s a merit in it.”

She concluded the message with a heartfelt sentiment for her fellow participants: “I hope wherever you are, you’re having some joy in life.”

Dara’s funeral took place on Valentine’s Day in Greystones, and Ciara spoke candidly about her loss last week, expressing how much she misses her sister and wishes she were still here.

“No normal walk today to be honest. Walks in high heels, walks in and out of churches, walks in and out of graveyards, and now this walk home as all of today was quite local,” Ciara shared in a video posted to Instagram.

“Just to say, it’s been a tough week, one of the toughest weeks I’ve ever had, to be honest. But nonetheless, we got through it and we continue to get through it.”

She acknowledged that she couldn’t have managed the difficult week without the overwhelming support she’d been shown. “Thank you to those of you out there, so many of you who are part of that support. We plough on.

“I miss Dara and I wish she was here. Taking the p**s out of me probably, there you go.”
