The Irish butter taste test

The Irish butter taste test

If you’ve ever tried making butter at home, or made it by accident by over-whipping cream, you’ll know it contains just two ingredients: cream and salt. It stands to reason, therefore, that the quality of the butter depends on the quality of those two things. Each butter we tested is made with Irish grass-fed milk.

Irish butter is famed the world over, with Kerrygold one of the country’s most recognisable brands. But Kerrygold is a creamery butter just like most of the butters tested here. A creamery is a large-scale production facility, taking milk from conventional dairy farmers.
