KFC confirmed to The Kerryman on Monday morning that “construction is now underway” on what will be the incredibly popular food chain’s first ever location in Kerry.

The restaurant will be located at the Manor West Retail Park between The Range and McDonalds.

In a statement sent to The Kerryman, a KFC spokesperson said: “We’re buzzing to confirm we’ll be opening a brand-new KFC restaurant at Manor West Retail Park. Construction is now under way and we’re excited to bring our iconic Original Recipe chicken to the local community. We can’t wait to welcome our first customers later this year and become part of the Tralee community.”

The spokesperson also told The Kerryman that there is no set timeline yet as to when construction will be finished or to when the restaurant will be opening its doors.

Kerry County Council granted planning permission to Dublin-based company Shadowmeadow Limited for a new fast-food restaurant at the area adjacent to The Range and McDonald’s back in June of 2024.

The planning application sought permission to construct a single-storey, flat-roofed restaurant that will operate as both a sit-in facility and a drive-through takeaway. The proposal also includes the development of a car park with 30 spaces and eight bicycle spaces on the site.

In addition, signage and pedestrian infrastructure are planned for the 0.3-hectare site. The company intends to replace the existing vehicular entrance and create a new access point along with a roadway surrounding the restaurant.
