A Co Donegal man is to stand trial charged on 20 sex assault charges over a five year period.

The man, who cannot be named, appeared before Letterkenny District Court.

He is charged with a total of twenty Section 2 sexual assaults dated between December, 2011 and December, 2016.

Garda Sergeant Jim Collins told the court that the Director of Public Prosecutions had consented for the accused to stand trial at the next sitting of Letterkenny Circuit Court.

He also said that the accused could go forward on a signed plea.

Solicitor for the accused man, Mr Frank Dorrian, asked the court for the case to be adjourned to get counsel’s opinion on the matter.
