An Post have announced a major job boost for Ireland as it looks to expand the number of postmen and women across the country.

The announcement comes as the national postal service opens a new parcel processing facility in Cheeverstown, Dublin 24. The volume of parcels in 2025 was 7% up on the prior year overall, leading to three million parcels being delivered by An Post every week in the lead up to Christmas.

An Post also said that parcel volumes in January and February 2026 are almost 50% higher than the same time last year. The new postmen and women, as well as the new parcel processing facility, will be a move to helping with this demand.

David McRedmond, CEO of An Post said: “With burgeoning e-commerce growth, capacity is the major issue for An Post. 300 additional frontline delivery staff will increase capacity in the “last mile” while additional processing at Cheeverstown will provide “middle mile” capacity until a major new parcels site for Ireland is opened at the end of the decade. Meanwhile, we continue to target efficiencies in non-frontline areas, through process redesign and technology.

“An Post’s Greenlight strategy has delivered positive results for 2025; and the growth in 2026 shows the seismic impact of Online on global trade. Parcel network capacity is an essential infrastructure for the State, allowing people and businesses to locate and operate anywhere.”
