Cork baby born with a rare brain condition, Evie-Mae has ‘the heart of a lion’, and her parents are sharing their story to raise vital funds.

Baby Evie-Mae was born in September 2025, along with her twin brother, Kai. The little girl was born with a brain condition, Vein of Galen Malformation (VGM); however, her parents didn’t know about it until she was eight weeks old.

Two months after Evie-Mae and Kai were born, Evie suffered a seizure at home. Doctors found that she had a brain malformation, a condition so rare that it affects only around one in one million babies.

Evie-Mae has been receiving treatment for the condition since her diagnosis, and unfortunately, the little one suffered a stroke after her last procedure. While she and her parents, Jonathan and Caitriona, are currently travelling between Cork and Dublin five times a week, sometimes more, for treatment, given the rarity of her condition and the ongoing complications, her parents say she may be transferred to the specialist children’s hospital in London, Great Ormond Street.

Evie-Mae’s devoted parents say their ‘amazing, beautiful little girl’ has ‘the heart of a lion. She says that their daughter hasn’t stopped proving everyone wrong. They say, ‘We as parents want to give her the best opportunity in life and the best possible care she can receive.’

That is why they have established a GoFundMe page to help raise funds for their daughter’s treatment and care. So far, €39,442 raised of a €75K target.

Speaking for himself and her mum, Evie-Mae’s dad, Jonathan, thanked everyone who has donated so far, adding, ‘We know we will have a long few months ahead of us, and the generosity has been so overwhelming and thank you for helping us.’
