Asked to describe the kind of woman she is, Sonique says: “I’m resilient. I’ve been through lots of highs and lows including a health battle with cancer and I’m still here, still standing, still singing.”
Resilient is right. In the summer of 2009, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. A year later, following operations and months of chemo, she got the all-clear. To mark her good news, she released a version of Cyndi Lauper’s Girls Just Want to Have Fun, to raise funds for Cancer Research UK.
