Rhys McClenaghan has missed out on a place in the pommel horse final at the Apparatus World Cup in Azerbaijan on his comeback after a lengthy injury-enforced absence.
The 2024 Olympic hero has been sidelined since the Paris Games after undergoing shoulder surgery.
McClenaghan finished 10th, with the top eight competitors advancing to the final in Baku.
“Proud to be back representing Ireland,” McClenaghan said afterwards. Proud of myself for accepting the challenge of competing at the highest level of sport again. Proud to be constantly progressing every day. This is the beginning of producing the best pommel routine in the world.”
James Hickey finished 13th in the same event, with OisÃn McConnell 18th in the high bar.
On Thursday, Eamon Montgomery shared 11th place in the floor exercise and Chester Enriquez finished 15th, while Daniel Fox was 12th in the still rings.
