A brand-new restaurant has opened their doors in Wexford…

A new restaurant has opened its doors in south Wexford, adding another dining option for locals and visitors alike.

The Scholars officially opened at 3pm on Friday March 6, at the premises of Sinnott’s The Schoolhouse Bar. The new restaurant is located within the well-known village bar and will operate primarily across the weekend.

The team behind the venture say the restaurant will cater for a variety of occasions including birthdays, communions, confirmations and other family gatherings, providing a new venue locally for celebrations and group dining.

As the restaurant begins welcoming customers, the owners have asked diners to “bear with them” during the early weeks while they settle into the new service and find their feet.

Speaking on the opening, owners Bridget, Mark and Anne said:

“The lounge is the perfect spot to relax, catch up with friends, and enjoy great food in warm surroundings. Pop in, have a look at the menu, pull up a chair and see what’s cooking — we think you’ll like what you find!”

The menu features a range of classic and contemporary dishes. Starter options include creamy seafood chowder served with Guinness bread, chicken wings in a sticky Korean BBQ sauce with blue cheese dip, chicken liver pâté with onion jam and brioche toast, and crispy panko brie served with apple and rhubarb compote and walnuts.

For mains, diners can choose from dishes such as beer battered local haddock and chips with tartar sauce, a 7oz Angus beef burger served in a brioche bun with cheddar cheese, Guinness pork and leek sausages with creamy mash and onion gravy, and an 8oz Hereford ribeye steak served with mushrooms, caramelised onions, chips and pink peppercorn sauce. A Thai-style red coconut curry with basmati rice is also available, with vegetable, chicken or prawn options.

Opening hours for the restaurant are currently set for weekends, opening from 3pm on Fridays, from 2pm to 8pm on Saturdays, and from 12.30pm to 7pm on Sundays.

Visitors can also enjoy live music at Sinnott’s The Schoolhouse Bar, which hosts performances every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, adding to the lively atmosphere at the venue.

The launch of The Scholars marks an expansion for the Clongeen bar and is expected to draw diners from across the surrounding area looking for food, entertainment and a place to mark special occasions.
