Wherever you are today — at home, spending time with family, or friends or quietly beginning to imagine the life you want to build — I want you to know something important.
Your voice matters.
When I first became involved in public life, there were not many women in the rooms where decisions were made.
Politics, leadership, and public debate often felt like spaces where women had to work twice as hard simply to be heard.
But change happens because women refuse to accept the limits placed upon them.
Across Ireland today, women are leading businesses, shaping communities, driving innovation, advocating for fairness, and stepping into roles that previous generations could only dream about.
Progress does not happen overnight. It happens because people — often young people — decide that things can be different.
There may be moments when you question yourself or wonder whether you belong in a particular place, career, or opportunity.
In those moments, remember this: you belong anywhere your ideas and determination can make a difference.
Ireland needs your creativity.
Ireland needs your courage.
Ireland needs your leadership.
You may grow up to become a scientist, teacher, entrepreneur, farmer, artist, engineer, doctor, or public representative.
Or you may choose a path that has not yet even been imagined.
Whatever direction your life takes, never underestimate the value of your voice and the impact you can have on the world around you.
The future of Ireland will be shaped by your generation — by your compassion, your ambition, and your belief that positive change is always possible.
On this International Women’s Day, I want to say to every girl reading this:
The future is already yours.
With every good wish,
Senator Anne Rabbitte
