Something is brewing in the hills of Donegal.
Daniel and Majella O’Donnell are lending their support to a new fundraising initiative launched by Relay for Life Donegal called the Boil The Kettle Appeal, inviting people everywhere to gather for tea this April in aid of the Irish Cancer Society.
The campaign, launched today, will run throughout April, encouraging families, workplaces, schools, clubs and communities across Donegal, Ireland and around the world to host a tea morning or tea evening to support people affected by cancer.
The idea is simple. Put the kettle on, invite people in, share a cuppa, have a conversation and donate what you can to: https://www.relayforlife.ie/event/donegal/boil-the-kettle-appeal
The campaign takes its inspiration from Daniel O’Donnell’s well-known line about how in Irish homes “there’s always a kettle on the boil”, referenced in Vincent Soye’s song Our House is a Home.
Daniel and Majella, joint patrons of Donegal Relay for Life, are encouraging people everywhere to take part.

Funds raised through the Boil The Kettle Appeal will support vital services provided by the Irish Cancer Society including the free cancer support line, counselling services, night nursing care, transport to treatment, and cancer research and advocacy.
Although the campaign begins in Donegal, organisers hope it will travel far beyond the county. Relay for Life Donegal is inviting families with loved ones abroad, Irish communities overseas, workplaces, schools, sports clubs and community organisations to host their own Boil The Kettle gathering during April. Through social media, a kettle boiled in Letterkenny could connect with a kitchen in London, a café in Sydney or an Irish family home in Boston.
Taking part is straightforward. Simply choose a day in April to host a tea morning or evening, register your event with Relay for Life Donegal, invite friends or colleagues, put the kettle on and donate whatever is raised.
Participants are encouraged to share photos of their gatherings online using the hashtag #BoilTheKettle to help spread the campaign even further.
The Boil The Kettle Appeal forms part of the lead up to Relay for Life Donegal 2026, which will take place on 23rd and 24th May at the ATU Donegal Letterkenny campus.
But in April, it all begins with the kettle brewing in the hills of Donegal… and spreading across the world.
