Shareholders of Aurivo Co-op will meet in Letterkenny today to receive information on a potential merger with Dale Farm Co-op.
Aurivo, which employs up to 100 people at a creamery in Killygordon, is understood to be eyeing up a deal to manage rising operating costs.
Dale Farm is Northern Ireland’s leading dairy company, owned by a cooperative of 1,300 dairy farmers.
Independent TD Michael Fitzmaurice has called on farmers to seek clarification on the merger’s impact on job security in the Aurivo head office, Homeland stores and marts.
Deputy Fitzmaurice said: “We want to make sure we have guarantees for the west of Ireland and that we make sure we hold jobs.”
Aurivo, which was Connaught Gold at the time, acquired Donegal Creameries in 2012.
