It’s crunch time in the Six Nations, with silverware on the line when Ireland host Scotland on Saturday afternoon, and there are some big calls ahead for Andy Farrell when he names his team later this week.

Ireland have put themselves in the mix for the Six Nations crown thanks to big wins over England and Wales over the past two weeks, but require help from elsewhere if they are to topple Scotland and France.

The winners of Saturday’s early game in Dublin are guaranteed the Triple Crown at least, and could yet claim more depending on France’s result against England in Paris later that evening.

The latest squad update for Ireland confirmed that there are no fresh injury concerns from the win over Wales last Friday, but Jeremy Loughman will miss the game against Scotland.

Connacht’s Billy Bohan has joined the squad to replace Loughman, while Brian Gleeson has also been training with the squad.

Cormac Izuchukwu, Jude Postlethwaite, and Bryn Ward have returned to Ulster for their URC game in Edinburgh on Friday, confirming they will not be involved in Saturday’s crunch clash.

Scotland team news

Scotland will have to plan without their first-choice second row, with Scott Cummings and Gregor Brown both ruled out through injury in a big blow for Gregor Townsend.

Adam Hastings, Nathan McBeth, Elliot Millar Mills and Duhan van der Merwe are all also ruled out through injury, while there will be nerves over the fitness of Kyle Steyn after he was stretchered off against England. However, Steyn has remained in training with the Scottish squad this week.

Townsend has called up Euan Ferrie, Alec Hepburn, Arron Reed and Alex Samuel to the wider squad to account for the injury issues.
