A proposal was made at Monday’s meeting of Mayo County Council, as to how hauliers and bus operators can combat the rising costs of fuel due to the ongoing war in Iran.
Independent Ireland Councillor for Westport Chris Maxwell has suggested that those driving trucks or busses for business should be allowed use unmarked fuel or “green diesel” in their tanks while driving on public roads, to help reduce costs.
The Louisburgh-based Councillor received support from Councillors across the board on this matter, and a letter will now be sent by Mayo County Council to the Minister of Transport with this request.
Councillor Maxwell has warned that a number of businesses are already on their knees with costs continuing to rise, and that the rising price of diesel will only add to this.
He has been speaking with Midwest Radio’s Rowan Kelly…
