Stephen Kenny believes former Ireland striker David McGoldrick would be a “brilliant person” to bring into a dressing room amid speculation the 38-year-old will come out of international retirement for the World Cup play-offs later this month.

With the play-off semi-final against Czechia just two weeks away, Heimir Hallgrimsson is without Evan Ferguson – who had ankle surgery last Monday – while Adam Idah is a major doubt with a hamstring injury, leaving Ireland with just two fully fit strikers from the November camp in Troy Parrott and Johnny Kenny.
