Was Zara Larsson ever asked to replace Camila Cabello in Fifth Harmony?
Fans of the “Work from Home” group previously speculated Larsson, 28, could join the group following Cabello’s exit in 2016. In a new interview with Tomás Mier at the Spotify Live Room, the “Midnight Sun” singer denied the rumor.
“Oh, no. I don’t do groups,” said Larsson. “I would never be in a group.”
The Grammy-nominated artist clarified she’s “always” been a fan of Fifth Harmony but couldn’t see herself as a member of any girl group. “I’m a big fan of girl groups. Like, I love that. I also like that I feel like the girl groups are coming back big time,” she explained.
“I just know personally, if I was, I would be front and center,” added Larsson.
“I love a girl group,” she continued. “I just couldn’t take not singing lead all the time.”
Larsson further confirmed she wasn’t approached to join the group. “It wasn’t like that,” said the star, who toured with Fifth Harmony and Cher Lloyd in 2013.
“I actually loved to be on that tour,” she recalled. “That’s memories for life. What a good time that was. What an era.”
Formed in 2012 on the second season of The X Factor U.S., Fifth Harmony originally featured Cabello, 29, Normani, Lauren Jauregui, Dinah Jane and Ally Brooke. The group released one EP and two full-length albums as a five-piece, earning major hits with the songs “Worth It” and “Work from Home.”

Cabello left the group in 2016 to pursue a solo career. She’s since released four albums and earned No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 with “Havana” and “Señorita.”
Fifth Harmony released one album without Cabello in 2017 before announcing an indefinite hiatus the following year. All four members have since launched solo careers.
Normani, Jauregui, Jane and Brooke reunited last year for a performance with the Jonas Brothers at the trio’s JONAS20: Greetings from Your Hometown Tour stop at Dos Equis Pavilion in Dallas.
In addition to the interview with Mier, Larsson’s appearance at the Spotify Live Room also included performances of “Midnight Sun” and a cover of “How Deep Is Your Love” by Calvin Harris and Disciples.
