Singer and mental health advocate Bressie has spoken candidly about enduring a devastating pregnancy loss.

Bressie and his partner, Louize Carroll, received the heartbreaking news at a maternity hospital, with Bressie first revealing the experience in his book, The Place That Has Never Been Wounded.

He remembered how he and Louize were sitting in the hospital, enthusiastically discussing what kind of parents they hoped to become. They were preparing to share the news they were expecting with their friends and family shortly.

Tragically, following a scan, the couple were informed that their baby’s heartbeat couldn’t be detected.

Now, Bressie has discussed why he chose to write about such an intimate and devastating loss. Speaking to the Irish Independent, he said documenting his experience felt ‘cathartic’.

“I wrote that because it was cathartic to write it. I wrote about it because it’s not just about grief, it’s about utter love,” he says. “But what I wanted people to get out of this [chapter] was, ‘I don’t know how to deal with this stuff. Like, don’t f**king ask me’,” he said.

Bressie described it as a “crushing experience”.

“When I did start talking about it, I [realised] how common this is. My first instinct was to protect people rather than actually feel this myself, and that’s what I’ve always done.”

Reflecting on past experiences, Bressie explains he typically becomes highly concentrated during a crisis, despite others anticipating he might crumble. Nevertheless, once the crisis passes, he tends to “collapse for about three days.”

Bressie has been in a relationship with Louize since 2020, reports RSVP Live. Louize, who works as a psychologist, first encountered Bressie through his mental health advocacy work.

She subsequently became part of The Blizzards, contributing backing vocals and playing the bass guitar.
