Ireland’s first floating sauna is coming to Dublin.

The crew behind Helios Sauna have unveiled their plans to introduce Ireland’s first floating sauna in Dun Laoghaire. The venture will involve constructing a sauna on a floating platform, enabling guests to relish in relaxation whilst encircled by the sea water – with the opportunity to take an immediate cold plunge afterwards.

Helios has already cultivated a robust following through its outdoor sauna experiences, which merge traditional sauna sessions with cold-water therapy. The firm initially launched facilities on Bray seafront, subsequently extended into Dublin with a Roman bath-style sauna courtyard in Dundrum, and have recently also headed south to open a facility in Rosslare.

Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council issued a request for individuals or businesses to suggest the provision and operation of a floating sauna in Coal Harbour in January 2025. A DLRCC spokeswoman stated at the time: “This innovative experience will offer a relaxing and rejuvenating escape for both locals and visitors. Located alongside the Old Quay in Dun Laoghaire Harbour, the Floating Sauna will be based on a pontoon structure no larger than 8m long x 5m wide (40m2 maximum).

“Sustainability is a key focus, and proposals should prioritise self-sufficiency and eco-friendly practices. Dun Laoghaire Harbour is a renowned architectural heritage site of national and international importance, known for being the primary location for sailing in Ireland. “With four yacht clubs and Ireland’s.

As one of the largest sail training providers, the Harbour boasts a rich maritime history. Whilst the Harbour is a hub for sailing activities, we are actively working to increase public participation in a variety of watersports.

“The addition of a Floating Sauna will provide a unique amenity for visitors to enjoy the Harbour in a new way.”
