Longford rugby fans are celebrating the Triple Crown success of the national team, with a particular pride in the achievements of Tadhg Beirne.
Ireland secured the Guinness 6 Nations Rugby Triple Crown trophy following an heroic 43 to 21 victory over Scotland encounter at the Aviva Stadium.
Andy Farrell’s men captured a fourth Triple Crown in five years thanks to tries by Jamie Osborne, Dan Sheehan, Robert Baloucoune, Darragh Murray and Tommy O’Brien (two).
Tadhg Beirne‘s dad is Gerry Beirne from Glen, Ardagh. Gerry went to school in Templemichael college and is now a Garda.
Gerry is married to Brenda Hyland, the 1983 Rose of Tralee winner who inspired the Christy Moore song.
