Just 24 hours after Killarney town celebrated an Oscar win, it was time to celebrate the national holiday in style and it was more than fitting that Jessie Buckley was honoured as part of the parade.

A special float ‘Kerrywood’ was dedicated to the Killarney actress who won Best Actress this week and also to her fellow talented actor, Oscar-nominated Michael Fassbender and Ruairí O’Flaherty who brougth a Grammy home to Killarney.

This year’s St Patrick’s Day parade in Killarney marked the culmination of the linked trilogy of themes for the big event with the organisers having embraced the town’s past, present and future since 2024.

“The festival grew in stature and in participation levels every year and St Patrick’s Day brings the biggest footfall to Killarney at any one time of the year,” said Festival Chairman Jason Clifford.

The theme this year was Echoes of Killarney: Future and the emphasis was on the wonderful events that are expected to happen in the town in the coming year.

The three grand marshals were are top class athlete Sarah Leahy – one of the country’s most promising sports stars, charismatic and hugely popular DJ and music producer David Sheehan and hugely creative teenager Fionn O’Leary whose unique gift working with modelling clay sets him apart as one to watch in the future.

With approximately 1,500 people taking part in he parade Killarney was a hive of activity as colourful spectacle of floats made its way through the town watched by thousands more who lined the streets for St Patrick’s day.
