A 31-year-old man has been found guilty of the murder of his partner, who was found with multiple stab wounds at their home in Midleton in Co Cork.

Adam Corcoran, who is originally from Ballincollig, had denied murdering Daena Walsh at John Barry House, Connolly Street, Midleton, on 2 August 2024.

He also pleaded not guilty to arson at the same address.

After deliberating for two hours and 30 minutes, the jury of eight men and four women returned unanimous guilty verdicts on both counts at the Central Criminal Court in Cork.

Corcoran had initially claimed that Ms Walsh had taken her own life, but under cross-examination in the witness box he admitted he had killed the 27-year-old woman but he said he did not remember doing it.

The mother-of-two was found with 25 stab and slash wounds and a partially amputated left arm in the burning apartment.

Corcoran had also denied starting the fire by putting aerosol cans on the cooker.

When the verdicts were read out today, Corcoran gave no reaction.

Ms Justice Siobhán Lankford thanked the jury for their service saying: “These are solemn matters and it is important they are done in public”.

She excused them from jury service for the next five years.

Corcoran faces the mandatory term of life in prison.
