A missing person investigation into a 38-year-old man from Newry has been stood down after the discovery of a body on Thursday afternoon.
38-year-old Shane McEvoy was last seen last Friday night near a Circle K petrol station in Ravensdale, Co Louth along the border.
Mr McEvoy, who is understood to be a serving medic in the Irish Defence Forces, had been spotted on CCTC earlier in the evening in a bar in Newry.
A significant search and rescue operation had been taking place in recent days as the family of Mr McEvoy became increasingly concerned for his whereabouts.
A statement from Gardaí on Thursday confirmed that the appeal had now been stood down following the discovery of a body.
“Following the discovery of a body, the missing person appeal in respect of Shane McEvoy (38), who was reported missing from Dundalk, Co. Louth since Friday 13th March 2026 has been stood down,” a spokesperson for the force said.
No further details have been released by the Gardaí, while the PSNI has also been contacted.
