The trend of paying your respects in person at rural Ireland funerals has returned.

Colm Kieran from Kieran Brothers Funeral Directors in Kingscourt says while there are so many ways online to pay your respects, the preferred choice is in person.

He said while the Covid pandemic caused a lot of changes, in rural counties, funerals the way we know them are back.

A major new survey of almost 3,400 people were asked about their views on funerals by RIP.ie.

The research is one of several initiatives the website is carrying out to mark RIP.ie’s 20th anniversary. On average over the past year Irish people have attended 5 funerals

When asked if grief is still considered a private matter in Ireland, 52% said yes and 48% no. Colm says attending funerals is still a very important experience especially in rural Ireland.
