Global economic turmoil may have workers fearing for their jobs, but employers must follow strict rules

Amid global uncertainty one thing is still true for now at least: Ireland enjoys what economists call “full employment”. That means less than 5pc of the potential workforce is out of work. It’s a good situation to be in.

A record 2.82 million are at work; just 4.9pc are not. This is one of the best data sets in Europe, where relative unemployment stands at 6pc.
