Samsung has recently reportedly confirmed that its latest flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S26 range, will soon support direct file sharing with Apple products. During a recent press conference in Japan, a top Samsung executive confirmed the news. The brand will release AirDrop compatibility via Google’s Quick Share framework, with file transfer support, officially heading to the Galaxy S26 series.
How the Galaxy S26’s AirDrop file transfer support will arrive and work
Samsung mobile division chief Won-joon Choi said that the AirDropwill roll out sequentially through upcoming firmware updates. While the brand has not provided an exact launch date, industry experts expect the integration to arrive alongside the much-awaited One UI 8.5 update. Once activated, Samsung Galaxy S26 series users will be able to locate nearby iPhones, iPads, and Mac devices directly within their standard Quick Share menu.
To transfer files using AirDrop, you must set the receiving Apple device’s AirDrop settings to allow everyone. The Galaxy S26 phones will then spot the Apple device nearby and transmit photos, videos, or large documents exactly as they would to another Samsung smartphone or tablet.Â
This works because Google introduced a new feature late last year with its Pixel 10 phones that finally made two separate file-sharing systems work together.
The functionality will eventually make it to older Galaxy products
After the Galaxy S26 range, Samsung will likely expand the AirDrop-like functionality to older smartphones and tablets over time. Millions of existing users with last-generation Galaxy products could eventually gain this feature as the software updates progress. This move follows a broader industry trend toward breaking down platform barriers.
It’s worth adding that other major Android manufacturers, including Oppo, have also recently announced their own plans to integrate this same cross-platform sharing technology within the month.
