License Cancellations

FCC Seal 2020 Federal Communications CommissionAfter filing for its license to cover and receiving an informal objection alleging that the stations antenna was not constructed, the site surveyor may not exist, and an inappropriate transfer of control may have happened, The Marconi Broadcasting Foundation quickly surrendered 91.5 WQPE Somerset MA. WQPE’s CP was set to expire on Monday, March 23.

iHeartMedia has surrendered the license of 1390 WLAN Lancaster PA. The station went silent in September 2025 after losing its transmitter site lease, while its Spanish Tropical “Rumba 100.5” programming on W263CD Lancaster is now fed by 102.5 WRFY-HD3 Reading.

FCC Actions

The FCC has requested that 3 Daughters Media amend its application to change COL of Conservative Talk 106.3 WMNA-FM Gretna VA to Brookneal VA.

While WMNA-FM’s application was to upgrade from a Class A in Gretna to a Class C3 in Brookneal, the FCC reminds 3 Daughters Media that because in 2019 and 2022 it was granted CP’s to upgrade to a C3 in Halifax VA, it has been operating under an implied STA at its facility in Gretna that the station must compare the Halifax facility to Brookneal. The commission notes, “Both the Application and the expired Halifax construction permit propose the same transmitter coordinates at ASR Number 1016916, although they specify different technical parameters on that structure. Both the expired Halifax construction permit and the Application request processing pursuant to the contour protection provisions of section 73.215 of the Commission’s rules. As such, we find that the retention of a first local service at the larger community of Halifax, Virginia (2020 U.S. Census population 1,118 persons) is preferred over a first local service at the smaller community of Brookneal, Virginia (2020 U.S. Census population 1,090 persons) under Priority (3). Accordingly, we
conclude that the Application is not a preferential arrangement of allotments under Priority (3) since the population of Halifax is larger than Brookneal by 28 persons.”

The FCC has issued a Notice of Violation to Armada Media – McCook for its 106.1 K291BW North Platte and its STL WQJS618 after an FCC agent found that an intermodulation product, measured at 839.39 MHz, was transmitting from the Armada Media’s rooftop equipment, which was greater than 600 kHz from the K291BW center frequency of 106.1 MHz, and was not attenuated by the required minimum 60 dB and causing interference to another station.
