James McFadden has set the record straight on claims that Celtic fans are spoiled.

The ex-Scotland hero turned Sky Sports pundit was working on the TV coverage for the Hoops’ dismal defeat to Dundee United.

After the game, McFadden laid into the club’s regression that has seen them slip from a position of strength, not for the first time under the current board.

It’s hard for any Celtic fan to disagree with the points he makes.

Your INSTANT REACTION to that loss 😡

Is the title race over?

McFadden said on Sky Sports: “You see the reaction from the fans at the end of the game – that’s been something that’s been there all season.

“It’s not because Celtic are faltering towards the end of a campaign of trying to win the league. It’s not a kneejerk reaction to a defeat.

“It’s because, when you look at those stats… you go back a year-and-a-half ago to January: Kyogo leaves, he’s still not been replaced.

“He’s still not been replaced! You look at the goals that are out of the team. Kuhn, not been replaced. Certainly not with quality anyway.

“That’s where the frustration is, Celtic haven’t moved forward. They haven’t even stood still, they’ve moved so far back. It is unbelievable.

“From where they were coming into the start of the season, or finishing, certainly, the end of last season before the cup final, to where they are now, is alarming.

“That’s where the frustration is. And I know that fans of other teams look at the Celtic fans and say ‘entitled, you’re spoiled, you’re used to winning, take your medicine’…

“The position that Celtic were in to where they are now is remarkable. That they’ve allowed this to happen. Because you look at goals, you look at the teams that are winning back-to-back home and away games against Celtic, teams have beat them twice in the season…

“It’s because [of] the poor planning. The poor action in the summer. It’s coming home to roost for them now, and the noise from the fans won’t be going away any time soon, either.”

The signings from the Hoops’ winter window have been anything but consistent so far, with the exception of Julian Araujo.

For Joel Mvuka and Junior Adamu, there are serious causes for concern.
