Students at Technological University Dublin (TUD) have been left feeling “abandoned and unsupported” following a “deeply concerning” delay with the release of exam results.
It was expected by students that results would be released in February but following multiple delays many students are still waiting to receive them. The University said the delays are due to their transition to a “new, unified student records system” and more students will begin to receive their results from today.
However, the multiple missed dates set by the University themselves has been criticised by students and the Students’ Union. One student told Dublin Live he was supposed to graduate on Friday, March 20, but missed it as he still hadn’t received his results.
“I’ve had to act like an administrator asking them and going back and forth between people to try and find out when my results are out,” he said. “People are waiting on these results for job interviews and applications.”
In a statement to Dublin Live, TUDSU President Naomi Sebastine said the Students’ Union were in contact with the University since January regarding the release of exam results. “However, as the process continued, the University repeatedly failed to meet the release dates it had set out,” she said.
“This has significantly undermined confidence in the information being provided. While communication channels between the SU and the University have remained open, the reliability of the communication has deteriorated.
“In practice, this has meant that meetings have become less effective, as the timelines and assurances given have not consistently been followed through. We want to be clear that we share the frustration and distress of students. The SU has worked continuously to relay updates and push for transparency, but too often the information provided has felt reactive and insufficient, rather than part of a clear and accountable plan.
“At this stage, it is difficult to view these communications as anything more than short-term reassurances that have not addressed the underlying issues. Given the repeated delays, lack of timely communication to students, and the very real impact this situation is having on their academic progression, wellbeing, and future plans, we believe it is necessary to speak publicly.
“Students deserve clear, accurate, and dependable communication, and the current situation – one of several serious issues this academic year – cannot continue without meaningful accountability.”
Ms Sebastine said the effect on both the student and academic experience has been “deeply concerning”. She added: “Students have faced prolonged uncertainty about their academic standing, with many unable to plan next steps such as internships, job applications, or progression in their studies due to the absence of results.
“Academically, students are now preparing for or undertaking further assessments without any clear understanding of how they performed in previous exams, which significantly undermines their ability to reflect and improve. On a personal level, the toll has been equally significant. We have seen a marked increase in the volume and tone of student communications, with messages becoming more distressed over time as the delays have continued without clear resolution.
“This situation, alongside ongoing registration issues, has left many students feeling abandoned and unsupported. The lack of timely, transparent communication has not only disrupted academic progression but has also eroded trust in the systems and structures that are meant to support students throughout their university experience.”
Ms Sebastine added that the Students’ Union were working to support students in anyway they can and said they were dealing with a high volume of queries due to the delays. “Clearer communication from the outset could have alleviated a significant amount of confusion and distress,” she said. “Instead, many students have felt left without adequate institutional support, and the SU has had to take on a role beyond what would normally be expected in order to ensure students were not left completely in the dark.”
In a statement to Dublin Live this afternoon, a spokeswoman for TU Dublin said results for continuing students will begin to be released from today. “TU Dublin is currently transitioning to a new, unified student records system as part of a major upgrade aimed at streamlining student services across the University,” she said. “As part of this process, additional quality assurance checks have been carried out to ensure the accuracy and integrity of Semester 1 examination results.
“Some student cohorts have already received their results, including over 660 students who graduated at our conferring in Tallaght on 20 March 2026, minor award students, and those who required results to progress to placement. Continuing students will begin receiving their provisional results from today as part of a phased release. Students will receive an email with instructions on how to access them.
“The release of results coincides with the University’s standard examination results period, which typically runs from February through March. Continuing students received a communication on Friday confirming that results would begin to be released today. TU Dublin appreciates the patience and cooperation of both students and staff as this major systems upgrade is implemented.”
