TWENTY five individuals have been arrested during a multi-agency “Day of Action” conducted by An Garda Síochána from the Limerick Division.

Over 40 gardai, backed up by personnel from a number of State agencies, descended on Newcastle West shortly after 7am in the multi-agency planned operation. 

A garda spokesperson said a total of 25 people were arrested for outstanding bench warrants during the course of the operation.

“They have since appeared before Newcastle West District Court this Tuesday,” said the garda spokesperson.

Four residential properties were searched under Misuse of Drugs legislation which resulted in a small quantity of drugs being seized, they said.

“Following a number of multi-agency checkpoints, one vehicle was seized for various offences.

“Gardaí also conducted enquiries into persons who are believed to be in possession of controlled dog breeds, and routine inspections were carried out on licensed firearm holders,” said the garda spokesperson.

Over 40 members of An Garda Síochána took part in the Day of Action which comprised the Limerick County Community Engagement Functional Area, the Limerick Crime Functional Area (inclusive of Immigration Officers) and was further supported by Limerick Divisional Roads Policing Unit, Regional Armed Support Unit and the Divisional Crime Prevention Officer.

Personnel from Revenue and Customs, the Department of Social Protection, National Parks and Wildlife Service, the Road Safety Authority, National Transport Authority and Limerick City and County Council (Dog Warden) supported gardaí during the operation.
