Over 100 US tourist groups so far have booked in for a tour of a south Donegal GAA ground this year.
Having hosted over 4,500 mainly American visitors to Fr Tierney Park, Ballyshannon, over the past three years, a new season of tours started last week.
During a three hour visit to the home of the Aodh Ruadh club, and second home to Donegal teams, the visiting groups learn about the place of the GAA in Irish society at home and abroad. They also have an opportunity to experience the games, meet players and learn about the central role played by GAA clubs in local community life.
“A small group of Aodh Ruadh volunteers sustain this programme which is the most important financial contributor to the on-going development of our facilities at both Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh and Father Tierney Park,” a spokesperson for the club said.
“This is a heavy commitment of volunteer time and new faces are always welcome.”
A monthly volunteer roster is prepared to share out the workload. For many of the months ahead the programme will run every weekday. If interested in becoming involved, make initial contact with Tom Daly.
