Thousands of ticketless Ireland fans will have to watch their country’s World Cup play-off semi-final with Czechia in Prague pubs, but one group of fans will not be amongst them.

Ireland fans received just 1,000 tickets for the away section at the Fortuna Stadium, with at least 6,000 supporters of the Boys in Green understood to have travelled to the Czech capital.

However, one group of fans managed to book a hotel room overlooking the pitch for just €220 for the night. The Iris Hotel Eden is located directly within the Fortuna Arena complex.

A video has been shared on social media from within the room, with many other supporters praising them for the ‘genius’ idea.

One wrote: “Legends lads , now that is excellent foresight.”

Another commented: “That’s unreal.”

Someone else wrote: “Genius.”

Meanwhile, Seamus Coleman paid tribute to the thousands of Ireland fans making the pilgrimage to Prague.

He said ahead of the game: “I’ve said it before the results last time, that this football team can lift the nation and we were proved right with that.

“We’re so grateful for their support, we’re so grateful that they’re getting here anyway they can, many flights, trains, whatever way they can to be part of it.

“As long as our supporters know that we don’t take that for granted and we want to give them another good night tonight.”
