The country’s ‘most honest food reviewer’ claimed he found the best burger in Ireland — and said the ‘mad’ prices were worth it.

Paul, who is better known by his online persona Paul_IsItWorthIt, visited Son of a Bun in Cork to see if it was just as good as he first remembered.

Addressing his 18,700 YouTube subscribers outside the restaurant on MacCurtain Street, he said: “This, in my opinion, the best burger in Ireland.”

He added: “I know every Cork person knows how good this place is but maybe some people around the island don’t. This place is absolutely sensational. Exceptional. It is ridiculous.”

However, this was Paul’s first trip there in over a year, and he warned people that the prices were “expensive”.

Glancing at the menu, he said the burgers ranged from €11.50 to €15 — and explained you would have to pay extra for a side.

This is something Paul did but simply said “oh my God” when he realised taco fries cost €9.

Paul opted for the ‘Chicken Cruncher’ which came with toasted butter, hot honey, maple and gochujang mayo, deep fried pickles, American cheese, double dipped crunchy secretly seasoned fried chicken breast, pickled cucumber and shredded iceberg packed inside a brioche bun.

After his plate arrived, Paul said it looked “incredible”, and he was amazed by just how big the burger was.

At one point he said: “I’ve taken three bites and there’s not a dent out of this. That’s the one thing I will say about it — it is about as messy as it gets.”

After his meal, he went outside to review the bill and his food, before giving it an overall rating out of 10.

Speaking with a full belly, he said: “I started off by saying this is the best burger I’ve ever had. I maintain that. I’ve had the mince burger in there and now I’ve had the chicken burger. The burgers are sensational.

“My only gripe would be that they are so hard to eat because they are so big.”

Cameraman John pointed out that they were not “first date burgers” before Paul spoke about the prices.

His burger, fries and two drinks came to €31.50 and he said: “€15.50 for a burger is mad money but I think one burger without any side is filling you in there.”

Paul added: “I have said it many times on this channel. If you are getting that sort of quality I really don’t mind paying a euro or two extra when you are getting homemade quality ingredients, quality meats, quality sauces.”

With that in mind, he gave it an eight out of 10 on price, before telling his audience the taste was faultless.

He said: “In my opinion, the best burger in Ireland, I don’t even think there’s one that is close to it. I think it is that good. I think it is absolutely sensational. It is a 10/10 for the taste.

“If I was recommending someone to try the best burger in Ireland, like where is the best place, people always ask where is the best burger in Ireland, from my experience from all the places we’ve been in the country, it’s Son of a Bun.”

Cameraman John said it was a “massive claim” before Paul said his overall score was 8.6 out of 10 — explaining that the price marked it down slightly.

After posting the video, which you can watch here in full, one person replied: “31.50 Euro was good value for such tasty food – to be fair the burger was huge & cheesy taco chips was also a big portion – that would be enough for two people.”

A second said: “I live in Cork City all my life. Have travelled the world, there isn’t a better place for food than this in my opinion.”
