Ireland will have a lot of regrets, having some so close to winning the tie in regulation time…

It was a case of one that got away for Ireland, after their World Cup dreams were shattered by Thursday night’s penalty shoot-out defeat to Czechia in Prague..
It should never have really come down to spot kicks after Ireland had led 2-0 during the first half of regulation time – but they gave away a bad penalty, before failing to give themselves some breathing space with a third goal during a dominant first half

Then 3 mins from the end of normal time, the Czechs struck for their equaliser.

In the shoot out, Caomhin Kelleher saved one of the Czech spot kicks, but Finn Azaz and Alan Browne missed theirs, to send Ireland out.

It was a horrible way for the World Cup dream to end, and there’ll be plenty of regrets and thoughts of what might have been.

It was just a bad a night for the North and Wales after they too bowed out.
The North lost 2-0 away to Italy, while Wales were beaten on penalties by Bosnia/Herzegovina
