A sister of Scarlett Faulkner, who suffered catastrophic injuries in a brutal attack, has issued a heartfelt plea for prayers, saying “a miracle” is needed as the young mum remains in a critical condition.

Scarlett (29) from Limerick city, remains critically ill in Cork University Hospital following the attack near Birdhill in Co Tipperary.

She received horrific head injuries from the attack that happened on a busy road last Saturday evening, March 21.

A woman in her 40s and a teenage girl were arrested on Thursday morning in connection with the roadside attack. On Friday, March 27, they both remained detained under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007 at garda stations in Co Tipperary.

Scarlett’s sister Victoria gave an update on her sister saying she is “not out of danger” and is currently in a very serious state.

“I seen all the messages and comments and thanks to each and every one of you, down to every prayer everyone has said. God bless you for doing it,” she said in a video message on Facebook.

However, she warned that Scarlett “is not out of danger.”

“At the minute my sister Scarlett is not out of danger. She is very critical at the minute. It will be a miracle if she does pull through and if she does survive.”

The family, she said, is overwhelmed with grief as they wait for updates.

“We are all praying and to be honest we are all heartbroken, we are in a million pieces. There are no words to describe how we are feeling now.”

Victoria made an emotional appeal to the public to continue praying for her sister.

“But please, I beg of you, just please continue to pray for Scarlett. It will be a miracle if my sister pulls through.”

She also described the heart-breaking impact on Scarlett’s young daughter, who is struggling to understand her mother’s condition.

“Her little girl is at home asking me every day, ‘How’s mommy? Is mommy going to come home? Can I go to see mommy?'” Victoria said.

“I don’t know what to say to the child because it’s too hurtful to explain. I can’t even turn around and explain to the child what’s going on. It’s too hurtful.

“It’s her mommy at the end of the day. She is only six and needs her mommy. Every child needs their mother.”

Victoria ended her message with a renewed plea for support.

“So please, I am begging of you to keep praying. That’s all I can say for now.”

Scarlett, who is a respected member of a Traveller family from Limerick county, was brutally beaten by a group armed with weapons at the side of the R494 in Birdhill on Saturday evening.

The motive for the savage assault remains unclear.

The vehicle she was travelling in was rammed off the road before she was dragged from the vehicle and attacked.

Ms Faulkner continues to fight for her life in hospital following the horrific assault.

She was found by emergency services with catastrophic head injuries on the side of the road.

She is believed to have been attacked by one or a number of people who were armed with weapons, and left for dead at the side of the road at around 5.30pm on Saturday.

Gardai are working on several theories as to the background of the assault, including that innocent Ms Faulkner may have been travelling in a car that was rammed by a group in another vehicle, dragged from her car, and attacked with implements at the side of the road.

Detectives at Nenagh Garda Station are continuing to investigate the attack.
