Ireland South MEP appointed left negotiator for youth guarantee EU report

An Ireland South MEP has been appointed as left negotiator for the EU report on youth guarantee.

Sinn Féin’s Kathleen Funchion will take on the role, describing the report as crucial in a time of global uncertainty.

The youth guarantee is a commitment by EU member states to ensure young people have education, apprentice, trainee and employment opportunities.

MEP Funchion says she’ll stand firm on the need for a sufficiently funded programme in the next EU budgetary period.

She says a strong report that recognises and addresses the challenges faced by young people must be produced.
