FORMER Limerick goalkeeper Tom Hennessy has led his adopted county of Sligo to Allianz Hurling League glory.
The Yeats County won the Division 4 title over the weekend, defeating a Longford side including two Limerick men – Blackrock’s Marty Farrell and Cathal Mullane, formerly of Killeedy.
Farrell scored 0-2 from center back while Mullane scored 1-1 but the Midlands side lost out 2-21 to 4-12 against Hennessy’s men.
Former Kilmallock player Hennessy played four times for Limerick in the 1994 National League and was sub keeper as the county reached that year’s All-Ireland final.
Hennessy is the father of another former Limerick goalkeeper, Barry, who was part of All-Ireland winning panels under John Kiely.
Elsewhere, Ahane native Richie Ryan lined out at full-forward in the Division 3 final for Donegal as the Ulster County was defeated by Wicklow.
