Wicklow man Ian Lacey, who built a career in Ireland’s wine trade and as a beloved figure in reggae radio broadcasting, has died aged 63, having been described as “one of the pioneers of the modern wine trade” and “an innovator in specialist radio music programming”.

A father of three, who was predeceased by his former wife Patricia, Ian was known to radio listeners as ‘John Public’ through his Jamaican music programme Black Echoes, which aired across RTÉ 2fm, BLB, Horizon, DLR, Hits 106, Jazz FM and Dublin City FM over a period spanning almost 40 years.
