We all relish packing our bags and enjoying some time in the sunshine but, when travelling, there are regulations you must observe when it comes to preparing your suitcases. Popular airline Ryanair has recently identified the item that should never be placed in hand luggage, and it’s crucial you’re aware of it before you travel.
When it comes to air travel there are numerous regulations you need to know about, and this one is particularly important. After all, we all want to remain safe when travelling, and nobody wants to risk encountering prolonged delays at the airport either.
It’s not the only item that’s prohibited. What you may not realise is the airline recommends several items should be kept out of your cabin bag.
The subject previously arose on Reddit, when one person enquired: “Can I bring my darts on a plane or do I need to check my luggage? Kindly, please advise.”
It’s a query that generated considerable discussion, with people offering numerous different suggestions. They shared their views with the original poster.
One stated: “Always put darts in checked luggage – doesn’t matter if it’s soft tip or points removed, not worth the risk. If you are worried about losing them, buy an air tag or similar android version and store that in your luggage.
“Air tags have been a life saver for friends travelling with instruments and golf clubs when the airport decide to lose your baggage.” Another simply answered: “Luggage.”
A third noted: “I always take mine apart and separate the components in my checked bags. Remove the stems and flights.
“I usually fly international though. If it is put together then it seems to be easier to be seen as a weapon.”
Meanwhile, a fourth stated: “I took mine to Turkey from the UK, and kept them in my hold. Don’t leave them in your carry-on.”
It may seem improbable to some, but many people travel with darts, so it’s information numerous travellers need to know. Whether it’s to add entertainment to a lads’ trip or enjoy some family amusement at the hotel, they’re items a considerable number of people like to bring along.
However, there are regulations when it comes to bringing them on an aircraft. Fortunately, some essential guidance is provided on the Ryanair website.

The website explains: “The following items must not be carried on board, but may be carried as part of your checked baggage. Objects with a sharp point or sharp edge capable of being used to cause serious injury, including darts.”
It also details a range of other items that shouldn’t be placed in cabin bags. There are reasons why darts should never be included.
Generally, darts should never be placed in cabin bags. Though regulations can differ between airlines, darts are often deemed sharp, prohibited items by most airlines and airport security due to the fact that they can be classified as weapons.
These items should be stowed in your checked luggage to prevent confiscation at security. This will avert any possible problems or delays.
